The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) is the oldest and most prestigious educational institute of Greece in the field of Technology (founded in 1836). NTUA attracts funding for research from National and European sources that place it on the top of all Greek academic and research institutions. Research is carried out in about 100 laboratories belonging to the various departments and sections of the institution. NTUA employs approximately 1800 researchers in more than 700 R&D projects supported by National and European Union funds.The School of Civil Engineering has been recently ranked among the top 40 of the world (QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2017) maintaining a very high standard of academic staff and attracting the best of the country’s students. NTUA will participate with the Sanitary Engineering Laboratory (SEL, http://www.eyt.gr/z/index.php/el/), in which all the technical work packages will be carried out.

RELATION WITH FORWARD-WATER
NTUA is the host institution of the FORWARD-WATER project and will be responsible for the administrative and financial project management, keeping the project on track with the requirements. In the Sanitary Engineering Laboratory of NTUA, all systems related to wastewater management and resource recovery will be developed. More specifically, the NTUA research team will be responsible for all technical work packages dealing with the investigation of draw solutions and the different membrane materials of the FO system, the operation and monitoring of the UASB reactor, the development struvite crystallizer, as well as the combination of all the above solutions and their optimization. In addition, the NTUA team is responsible for assessing the environmental, economic and social impact of the project and for implementing a strong dissemination and communication strategy.
