The FORWARD-WATER project is ongoing under steady progress! The second Work-Package (WP) regarding the selection protocol of the most effective draw solution has been successfully completed! The research work of this particular WP included the examination of the accomplished sewage condensation through the application of the Forward Osmosis (FO) process with different draw solutions and the investigation of the biomethane potential of each produced concentrate through the so-called BMP experiments.
Currently, the third WP regarding the selection protocol of the membrane used in the FO process is in progress. For the development of such a protocol there are two principle parameters, which have to be examined, namely the membrane material and the most effective cleaning method for the handling of membrane fouling. At the moment the efficiency of the first membrane material is being tested along with physical cleaning techniques (in-situ water flushing and ultrasonication).
